The annual retreat for deacons and seminarians of the diocese took place in Lubbock on August 28–29, 2026.

Key Events

• Friday Dinner: Held at the Texas Tech Club. Deacons gathered with seminarians and presented Bishop Scott Mayer with two bottles of Scotch ("matured" cask Scotch and "The Deacon") in appreciation of his leadership.
• Saturday Sessions: Convened at the parish hall and nave of st-pauls-lubbock, hosted with help from Deacon Becky Orem.
• Discussions & Study:
  • Reenacted a deacon's ordination service to explore diaconal character.
  • Discussed recruitment and diaconal formation.
  • Studied the article "Exodus from Privilege: Reflections on the Diaconate in Acts" by the Rt. Rev. Thomas E. Breidenthal.
• Worship: Concluded with the renewal of diaconal vows and Holy Eucharist.
