Welcome to our newest endeavor - a web page promoting health and wellness issues in Northwest Texas!

In this age of health care issues, with health care under debate and in the news, and with increasing numbers of our society suffering from debilitating health issues, what better goal to strive for... spiritual AND physical health. After all, overall health is a combination of spiritual, mental, and physical health.

This new web-based effort is meant to provide information, suggestions, and support to those who are concerned about their overall health. Each month we will sponsor the Health and Wellness News periodical from The Episcopal Church Medical Trust. Additionally, each month we will focus on one particular topic.

Enjoy your visit to our web page, and please check back to see new additions and changes. All suggestions and comments should be directed to Nancy Igo, Diocesan Ministry Coordinator and Web Minister at the following link:  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Hearing_lossHuh? What did you say? Would you mind saying that again? I SAID... May is Better Speech and Hearing Month!

When was the last time you asked someone to repeat what they said because you didn't hear them? Since speech patterns are often developed in childhood and may be diagnosed at a younger age, we will look at the more prominent problem of hearing loss this month.

Many of us are unaware that we may have a hearing loss since it often comes on gradually, allowing us to become accustomed to it over a period of time. Of course, it may come on more more rapidly, suggesting there is a sudden problem. Hearing loss is typically categorized by the portion of the auditory system that is damaged.

Asparagus

Spring has sprung and so have those delectable asparagus spears. Like other green vegetables, asparagus are chock full of nutrients, providing 20 different vitamins and minerals including a huge dose of folate, vitamin C, and vitamin A. This terrific trio makes them particularly valuable for heart health, healthy pregnancy, and keeping the immune system in good working order.

Here are two of her favorite recipes to boost your health with asparagus.

Roasted Asparagus with Lemon and Parmesan
